What Should I Wear for my Corporate Headshot?
Ask yourself what do you want to convey and where will the headshot photos will be displayed? For more conservative industries like law and finance, we recommend the standard suit-and-tie, or female equivalent.
Most prefer a combination of both a standard suit-and-tie or business blazer. This way you have best of both worlds to use when appropriate.
A good rule-of-thumb is to dress similar to your peers. Take a look on LinkedIn, at images elsewhere online to see how your peers and senior executives in your industry are dressed.
Pay attention to people who are successful in your network. Of course, it also depends on your personality, industry and where the photos will be used.
Dress for success! If you’re still not sure, then ask us! We’re always happy to provide guidance.

How Should I Pose for my Corporate Headshot?
For corporate headshots, we find less is more, and minimalist poses work best. Leave it to Bethesda Headshots to guide you. We’ll warm up with simple straightforward poses. Simply be yourself and we’ll coax a warm smile from you.
Best to capture both formal, informal and candids. No need to go crazy on your poses for business headshots.
In our sessions, we tend to focus on minimalist poses. We’ve seen other photographers force clients into some truly bizarre poses. But, we avoid this practice.
We are, after all, showcasing your professionalism — not our photography.
What Backgrounds Work Best for my Corporate Headshot?
For more conservative industries like law and finance, neutral studio backdrop such as white, light, medium or dark grey usually work best. With these neutral colors, we can get some really nice shots that work well with a variety of outfits that convey professionalism.
If you work in creative industries, non-profits, or tech, and you’d like your background to stand out more, try an outdoor or in-office environmental session. We can also do a custom color background for a bit more personality if necessary..
If you’re a senior executive, entrepreneur or thought-leader, it might be nice to have several branding photos of yourself that you can use across platforms. Ideally, you would have a couple outdoor photos to supplement your in-studio headshots.
